I'm not able to quit Photos. It's stuck on my computer. The red x in the upper left corner- you know with the yellow (reduce) and green (full screen) appears a bit darker than usual. Tried a hard shutdown but getting a message that it fails because Photos is open. Can you help?
try this:
Open activity monitor, find Fotos, click the stop-button (top-left under the red yellow-green window-buttons). Try to "end" process, if this does not work, try the second option, something like "terminate immediately"...
If this does not help, either wait for better advice or push the power-button, keep it pressed until the computer shuts down. This is a rough method, but sometimes the last resort.

Where are your photos stored? Are they on an external drive?
Do any other programs have issues?
Photos has to write a lot to the library before it shuts down. If you have disk issues it might prevent it from shutting down.
