All the settings are the way they were before the update, except now the only events searched for coming up are for today. I also have 'sync all events' on.
How do I make the ical search work again?

“iCal” hasn’t been around for many (>5) years. I’m guessing you mean the Calendar app.
Search in Calendar works just fine for me (iOS 14.5.1). So perhaps if you provide additional details, such as where your calendar is housed, someone might be able to help.
Also I understand iCloud had some issues a few hours ago, so perhaps that’s related.
