Disable Antialiasing in Terminal on Big Sur - only with a workaorund?

Another user mentioned the following issue:

In Terminal/Preferences/Profiles, I have the "Antialias text" checkbox unchecked. Since updating to Big Sur, it seems this option is no longer respected. I have tried running `defaults -currentHost write -g AppleFontSmoothing -int 0` and `defaults write com.apple.Terminal AppleFontSmoothing -int 0` but the text in Terminal is still antialiased.

I found a workaround that is to restart (once or more) the Terminal to trigger the non-antialiased fonts; I'm wondering whether there's a final solution to this issue introduced with Big Sur...

Hi,
thanks for your reply; my issue is that - regardless of the font selected - the 'antialias text' option in Terminal (Preferences > Profiles > Text) does not work like it used to until macOS Catalina. I prefer the pixel-perfect font without any smoothing (i.e. with 'antialias text'disabled) ; the workaround that I found out is to restart Terminal (sometimes a few times) to make it work as expected...

If you go into the Terminal preferences, you can change the font.

I found Courier is a good font for easy legibility. It is after all, the old typewriter font.

when you hit command-+ you can increase the font size.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays -> Color also allows you control the color profile you are using. Many people have found that smoothing is really hard on their eyes, if they have some form of color blindness, because it often combines greens and blues. Adjusting the color profile in those events can help.
