Mid-2015 MBP Retina High CPU usage of "remindd" process after Big Sur update

Ever since I upgraded to Big Sur when it was released, I've noticed the fans in my MBP running at a higher RPM all the time, even when no other apps are in use except for the macOS and iCloud services. The recent 11.3.1 update didn't include a fix for it either.

My MBP model is the mid-2015 Retina A1398, 2.8GHz quad-core i7, 16gb RAM, 1tb SSD.

After running at the Activity Monitor frequently over the past week, it shows the "remindd" process using 60-201% of the CPU. This has basically rendered my MBP unusable. As soon as I wake it from sleep or boot it up, the fans kick in and the "remindd" process is at the top of the list in Activity Monitor. It's gobbling CPU power, making the MBP run very hot, and spinning up the fans to maximum RPMs. It's like having twin turbine engines in my lap.

I followed someone else's post about going to System Preferences/iCloud/Reminder, unchecking it, rebooting, then going back to iCloud and re-checking it to turn it back on. That didn't help. Neither does leaving it unchecked.

Maybe someone else has found a workaround. Please help!

Here's a screenshot from last night. "remindd" is at the top of the list.

Hi,

I did that last night, coincidentally. However, turning off the Reminders app for both my iMac and MBP didn't always prevent the "remindd" process from sneaking back in.

So, with Reminders turned off, I rebooted, went back to Activity Monitor, selected the "remindd" process, then chose View>Quit Process. On the iMac, following those steps forced the process quit immediately. On the MBP, the "remindd" process popped back into the list 3-4 times before it quit for good.

After shutting the MBP down for the night, and booting back up this morning, the "remindd" process appears to be off and not gobbling CPU usage.

I'm now able to use my MBP again without the fans sounding like jet engines and making the Mac run super hot.

I hope Apple can address this issue quickly. I do use the Reminders app frequently across all my devices.

Thank you for your help!
