hp laserjet pro m15a

I have an HP Laserjet Pro m15a printer. On the HP website I find a generic '' HP Easy start '' driver that connects you to the apple store to download the related '' HP smart '' software, which I believe is generic software for all printers. Once this software is installed, the printer is recognized, but when I try to print a document it does not print. Do you know if there is incompatibility with Big Sur? Because I have seen some videos on yt that try to install files directly in dmg format, but I cannot find the specific one for this printer.

thank you in advance

I have this same printer. It is doing the same thing as yours where by all appearances it seems to be working.... except it is not printing anything. From what I have researched because the printer is not compatible with AirPrint, since it is not wireless, the printer will not work. I love this printer and am disappointed that it will not work with my MacBook Pro.

You can not use the AirPrint Driver to print to that Printer -- it does not support AirPrint.

That Printer appears to be a simple monochrome printer. Its imaging would be done on the Mac, and the stream of pixels to print would be sent to the Printer over USB-2.

If HP has decided Not to release a new Driver for Big Sur, it may have become a paperweight.

See if you can select a GutenPrint or CUPS printer driver when adding the printer.

If this is not an option, then you can try using the CUPS web interface to manage the printer. You will first need to enable the CUPS interface by first running the following command within the Terminal app (press the "Return" key at the end of the line to execute the command):

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

Now open a web browser and enter the following URL to access the CUPS printing system:

localhost:631/admin

You should be presented with the CUPS printer administration interface. You will be prompted for your admin user name and password. Using "admin" for the URL instead of the "printers" will give you the administration page for adding the printer which may be a bit more difficult to find if you use the "printers" in the URL.

If your exact model printer is not available as an option, then choose the model series to see if it will work for your printer.

Hi,

There is an HP Easy Admin tool for Mac that allows administrators to download drivers without a connected printer. I do not know whether this would change anything compared to HP Easy Start or HP Smart regarding the actual driver, though (perhaps worth investigating if these applications cause difficulties).

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06164609

HWTech mentioned CUPS, which is used for Linux as well. It is interesting to note that the HP LaserJet Pro M15a is a supported printer for HP Linux Imaging and Printing (see the list at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index).

If absolutely nothing else works, one could connect the printer to a USB port of an old (spare) PC, with an appropriate earlier version of the free Ubuntu (Linux) operating system (and the aforementioned HPLIP driver), as an experiment. The PC can be connected to a Wi-Fi router via Ethernet. Ubuntu uses CUPS, and understands Bonjour/mDNS. The local (USB) printer could be shared (a few simple steps) by the Ubuntu computer (now, acting as a print server). One could then test whether (wired or wireless) printing from a Mac would be possible via the network.
