Airplay in Dolby Vision with Apple TV 4K 1st Generation

Is Airplay Dolby Vision exclusive to the Apple TV 4K 2nd Generation or can the 1st Generation do it too, only not with 60 FPS?

Hello F-Shady,

Thank you for your question in Apple Support Communities. We're happy to help.

Dolby Vision is available on both generations of Apple TV 4K. Dolby Vision does not utilize AirPlay or AirPlay 2, it is transmitted via HDMI cable compatible with Dolby Vision.

Dolby Atmos (sound) can be utilized with one or two HomePod speakers and Apple TV 4K. See our articles below:

Hi F-Shady,

Thank you again for question and the clarification of it. Yes, AirPlay in Dolby Vision would be possible on the previous generation Apple TV 4K at the technical specifications listed here: Apple TV 4K Tech Specs

This is compared with the capabilities of the current generation Apple TV 4K Tech Specs

Of course, you would need to AirPlay Dolby Vision from a device capable of recording at 60fps to experience Dolby Vision in that high frame rate, such as the iPhone 12 Pro.

We hope that helps.
