Text to speech not working.

I have a brand new iPhone SE (2020) and am running iOS 14.5.1. I've tried several ways to get the speech to text function to work. Each method resulted in only a few words being spoken before being abruptly cut off. This was accompanied by whatever app I was using at the time freezing anywhere from a few moments to several seconds. I believe the iOS was freezing at least momentarily. Methods I've tried include 1) manually selecting a paragraph in either a PDF or on a web page, then choosing "Speak" from the pop-up menu and 2) Using the Speech Controller option (Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Word > Speech Controller). I noticed Siri spoken response seemed to be affected for a few minutes after the text to speech glitch.

Any ideas of what to do?

Hi PhilGE,

I would try and wipe to factory and try again. If it works then do a restore and see if the problem persists.

if you think you would like to give it a go by your self. Make sure you have everything backed up like photos contacts etc. And have a backup on your computer or iCloud.

Thanks, Mr Leo Sir. I will consider these options. I wonder if others are also experiencing this problem given these challenges I’m now reading about with Siri.

Have the exact same problem, but noticed that if battery saver was ON (even if not needed), the text to speech works. Have submitted a report at Apple's Feedback site. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I just tried out battery saver and text to speech worked. Turned it off and text to speech didn’t work. Go figure! Thanks again.
