My iwatch will not update. It responds with “continue on iPhone “. The iPhone just indicates it is installing in the iwatch app

What do I need to do when the iwatch app on my iPhone continues to show installing for hours on end?

What is the latest software update for the iwatch 5? I updated my iphone 7, but can't get my iwatch 5 to update. Wondering if there was no update there. I have restarted both, hooked in to my wifi and bluetooth, but when I go to the watch app to start update, it has me check that my iphone 7 has been updated, and ends there.
