Wireless CarPlay audio and video lags, iPhone heats up

Hey guys,

I‘m having some problems with wireless CarPlay for quite some time now (since iOS 13.x I guess). My car is a VW Passat, built in 2020. In the beginning, everything worked well, stable and reliable.

But since a certain iOS update (unfortunately, I cannot tell exactly, which one, but it was in the 13.x main line), the CarPlay has random lags. First, I noticed audio lags only (short interrupts of music playing, just short ticks), but later I found out, that the same lags also affect the video connection (you can see lags / hang ups in some fluid animations, i.e. when map zooms, at exactly the same time the audio lags). So I assume it’s the same error in the background. Furthermore I noticed, that since that update, my iPhone starts heating up and draining the battery very fast as soon as I activate wireless CarPlay. Personally, I think there is some problem with the WiFi connection between iPhone and car, but that’s just a guess.

What I tried to resolve the problem:

• unpair phone and car at both ends, completely reset the respective bluetooth / WiFi connections, and re-paired the devices
• updated iOS and car software to the latest versions
• reset iOS network settings
• reset iOS general settings
• factory-reset iOS completely

None of the above-mentioned things helped.

Are there any other things I can try? Or other things, that you guys can suggest? Are there any log files (or similar), which I can send to Apple for further investigation? What would be your suggestion?
