See the following from Microsoft https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/upgrade-macos-to-continue-receiving-microsoft-365-and-office-for-mac-updates-16b8414f-08ec-4b24-8c91-10a918f649f8

As of the December 2020 (build 16.44) update for Microsoft 365 for Mac or Office 2019 for Mac, macOS 10.14 Mojave or later is required to receive updates to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. If you continue with an older version of macOS, your Office apps will still work, but you'll no longer receive any updates including security updates.

Upgrading your operating system to macOS 10.14 or later will allow Office updates to be delivered for your apps. Note that new installs of Microsoft 365 for Mac or Office 2019 for Mac will also require macOS 10.14 or later.

The following may also help:

The model year of a MacBook Pro is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.

A mid-2010 through late-2011 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.6 but no later version.

A mid-2012 through early-2013 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7. See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

A late-2013 or later can be upgraded to the current version of Big Sur. See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201475
