Trying to Add Third Partition

I used Bootcamp a while back to run Windows once in a blue moon. In disk utility, it will not let me partition my hard drive due to no free space available on my mac partition. Going back, it says I used less than a hundred GBs, and the rest of my partition is free space. Why can I not add another partition even though I used less than a quarter of my disk space? I just deleted my time machine backups.

I never recommend people to create multiple partitions because they always choose the wrong sizes and later have issues when trying to resize everything which causes them to lose their data and make their system unbootable. Multiple partitions on the main drive is always dangerous. I don't even recommend using BootCamp unless using Windows in a Virtual Machine is not an option.

What is your need for another partition?

Would an APFS volume work for you as that is a safer option than another partition? An APFS volume will give you some of the benefits of another partition as long as you can use APFS.

Always have frequent and regular backups. This is even more important when you are modifying partitions.
