Mac Mini M1 second monitor does not wake after sleeping

Hi all,

this M1 Mac Mini has been a source of constant aggravation since I got it. Among the most annoying traits is that that my second monitor at times does not wake after the Mac has gone to sleep. I have tried displays have separate spaces, re-enabling and re-disabling. I have tried disconnecting the monitor and plugging it back in. But once it goes off, then nothing short of a restart can re-enable using the second monitor. Constantly needing to restart the Mac is not doing it any favours.

I thought that the most recent update was supposed to take care of this, but no such luck. Any more ideas?

Connection:

Monitor 1: Gigabyte G32QC connected via HDMI

Monitor 2: Dell P2414H connected via Baseus Titan Hub connected to Thunderbolt/USB-C

This is a macOS issue that is not limited to just your new M1 Mac Mini. It is a dual displays issue that has been around as far back as macOS 10.14 Mojave.

I have been using dual display setup for years and the "Work Around" that I use, is a Hot Corner set to "Put Displays to Sleep". Then if and when a display fails to wake, I use the hot corner to re-sleep and then I re-wake the displays. It works every time and I never have to un-plug/re-plug a display or restart the system.

Sorry I only offer a "Work Around" but I encourage you to send Feed Back to Apple about this issue.

Is is a MacOS issue? I have never experienced it on any of my other Macs - Macbook Airs, Pros, and iMacs - all running external monitors since High Sierra. So far, it's just been with this M1 Mac Mini. Thanks for the Hot Corner workaround, though I tend more often than not to accidentally activate them unintentionally when navigating with my mouse or trackpad!

Will definitely give feedback to Apple on this.

Thanks!
