iMac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 2010 issue

iMac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 2010 screen started going darker and lighter (flickering between light and dark), and now it randomly goes black in the middle of me using it. How do I resolve this problem?

Sounds like you most likely have a backlight issue. This can be caused by a worn out Inverter Board or bad backlight which most times means a bad LCD Panel (sometimes it is possible to replace just the backlight on some LCD Panels). Unfortunately a 2010 Mac is no longer supported by Apple plus the iMac is a bit difficult to work on . I honestly don't know if there are any parts available from third parties. The LCD Panel would be extremely expensive and very risky since many LCD Panels end up having burn in issues or color issues. Unless the Inverter Board is bad and available from somewhere I don't think this iMac is worth repairing.
