Just to confirm, iCloud for Messages does not work on an old, 10-year old, 2011 iPad 2 running iOS 9.

iCloud message and update for Messages was never available to older iPads running iOS 9 or 10.

Maybe for iOS 11 and 12 devices, but NEVER available to iOS 9 or 10 devices.

I tried long time ago to set this up both my wife and I who still own and use 9 and 10-year old iPad 2 and 3 models AND much newre iPad models, with no success ever on these old iPads.

Sorry.

When opening your reminders App for the first time on iOS/iPadOS13+, you were presented with an option to “upgrade” the Reminders App. You will also have been presented with a warning that compatibility with devices running earlier versions of iOS would be lost.

If you clicked-though and accepted the upgrade, you triggered a one-way update for your account on Apple’s servers. Once triggered, you cannot return - and Reminders for iOS12 and older versions are forever incompatible with newer devices.

Sorry, but for iOS12 and earlier, the Reminders App cannot now sync’ with newer devices.
