AirPods Pro and YouTube on Mac: no sound

My AirPods connect to my Mac but when I open a Youtube video they disconnect and the video freezes. No matter how many times I reset the AirPods the issue persists. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We can understand why you’d want to resolve the issue with your AirPods disconnecting while streaming videos.

Does this issue only happen with YouTube or other video sites or apps as well? Try to force the app to quit: How to force an app to quit on your Mac

Then, test again. If the issue continues, consider the following.

Can you test another browser?
Can you test different Bluetooth devices?
Can you pair your AirPods and test another device?

Hi Chris. This is very strange because it only happens between Mac and AirPods Pro. When it is AirPods Pro and Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, all works. When it is Mac and Bose bluetooth headphones, all works amazingly. But "AirPods and Mac" has been a constant issue. I tried different browsers, quit browser, turn Bluetooth on/off, restarted the Mac. Tried to reset bluetooth module, deleted Aipods from my Mac, from my iPhone even! Nothing. The problem persists. It will eventually work, after a restart, with Music, but then it will stop working if I open YouTube in any browser. That transition from one device to another never works either. I can see the notification saying "AirPods nearby", and I can even connect from that notification. But the moment I try to press play it freezes my YouTube and eventually kick off the AirPods and play sound thru the Mac speakers....
