Hello LearningMyMac04,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you're receiving a funky error when starting up your MacBook Pro, and we'd like to help out.

The first troubleshooting step is to start up in safe mode. Here's how: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Safe mode may take longer to finish the start up, as safe mode does some system checks, and can sometimes resolve issues. You'll also see some differences in the display. This is expected with safe mode, and when you restart normally, they'll be gone.

If you're able to reach the Desktop with safe mode, restart normally and test again.

If you're still not able to completely start up still, the next step is to try macOS Recovery. About macOS Recovery on Intel-based Mac computers

Recovery uses a different macOS Startup volume, so it's a great way to determine if the issue is software or hardware.

If you are able to fully start up in Recovery, then you'll want to reinstall the macOS, and you should be able to do without erasing your data. Reinstall macOS

Follow the steps in the section titled "Reinstall macOS from the built-in recovery disk on your computer"

Take care!

Hey there LearningMyMac04,

Thank you for the additional information, as it really helps!

Knowing that safe mode allowed you to completely startup without that error message, points us to Login item(s) which may be the culprit.

This Apple Mac Help page shows where to check what these items are: Open items automatically when you log in

Take a look at the list, and remove any which you do not remember adding, or are not familiar. Then restart again to test.

Once the issue is resolved, you can add back any Login items, one by one, and test after each one is added, to try and isolate the one with the issue. Keep in mind that removing and adding a Login item back again may resolve the issue.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi LearningMyMac04,

To help the community assist with your MacBook Pro, can you provide some additional information?

What happened when you tried safe mode? Same error message received?

When you started up in macOS Recovery, was that startup successful, or did you receive an error message still?

If that startup was successful, did you reinstall the macOS? How did that go?

Any other additional information you can provide may also be helpful. Such as, was anything new, hardware or software, installed before this issue started?

However, please do not include any personal information.

Thank you!

When I started it in safe mode the error message did not come up. But once I restarted the computer normally the message came up.

I was successful reinstalling OS but the error message came up.

As far as downloading new software on there i downloaded zoom, go to meeting, adobe reader. But unfortunately this error message was coming up before I downloaded those applications.

How do I fix "Error while installing Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)" message ?
