Photos attached to Apple Notes are rotating when viewing iCloud notes in web browser

I've encountered an issue / bug where some of my photos attached to Apple Notes are being rotated when viewing the Notes on icloud.com/notes in a browser.

I believe it's only portrait photos that automatically rotate to landscape when viewing my Notes in the browser, because landscape photos display in the correct orientation.

Has anyone else encountered this bug and/or know of a fix? I first encountered this using Windows 10 desktop with Edge browser to view the notes. But I checked on my iPad and iPhone using Safari browser to access icloud.com/notes and I see the same behaviour.

It makes using Apple Notes a pain on other devices.

_wintermute_,

Thanks for getting back to the Apple Support Communities with this information. If all devices are up-to-date and you're having a problem with multiple devices, the problem may be linked to the iCloud account directly. We would recommend reaching out to Apple directly so they can do further isolation steps with you and assist from there. Here's more information on how to Contact Apple for support and service.

Best regards!

I should confirm that the photos were taken with the Notes app. Photos taken with the Camera app do not even display in the iCloud.com/Notes web app - another poor user experience.

This is a reproduceable issue. Where should I report it?

Steps to reproduce:

  • Add a portrait photo to a note using Notes app camera icon to take photo or video
  • Open that note in iCloud.com/Notes and the portrait photo will appear in landscape mode without any way to rotate it back to the correct orientation

Hey there, _wintermute_!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, you are having a problem with photos in Notes rotating automatically to landscape mode when viewing the notes from iCloud - Notes. We see no one has responded to your post yet. Here are a couple of things that might help others answer your question:

  • To verify, from where are these notes created? Are you creating them on the iPad, iPhone, or the PC itself?
  • When adding the Photos, from where are you gathering the photos? Are they coming from online, or are you taking the photos yourself?
  • Are all your devices (iPad, iPhone, and PC) up-to-date?

Once more information is posted, others in the Apple Support Communities may be able to offer help.

Take care!

The notes were created on my iPhone.

The photos were taken on my iPhone and either taken with Camera App then added to Notes, or taken within Notes app. Both methods of adding portrait photo to Notes produces this issue (rotating to landscape) when viewing it in iCloud Notes.

My iPhone is up to date with iOS 14.5.1 and iCloud Notes is what it is (May 15, 2021 version).
