Backlight Options Missing and Not Working

A few months ago, I've noticed that my backlighting wasn't working even if I was in pitch dark. I tried using my F buttons to adjust but nothing happened. So I went into the control centre on the top bar (don't know what you call it :l ) to try and drag to adjust. Whenever I drag it to a certain point, it just pops back to the start, magic maybe? I got into system preference but found no option to adjust my keyboard backlight preference unlike the tutorials and videos I've watched. I've never spilt any food or liquid on my keyboard and it's only one year old.

Does anyone know how I can fix this (or am I just stupid)? I'm writing this in the dark rn...

We understand you're unable to adjust the backlight brightness on your Mac's keyboard. We'd be happy to help.

To get started, it would be best to reset your SMC as this can directly impact issues with keyboard backlighting. For help with doing so, check out: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If the issue persists afterward, restart your Mac and test further. If you continue to have problems, we'd recommend testing to see if the same behavior occurs using safe mode, and by creating a new admin test user. You can find out how to complete those steps using:
