Start up Sound Issue

I am having issues with saving my choice for the Start up sound on my Mac. Every time I un-check the "Play sound on start-up" option in the Sounds section and I then close the System preferences menu and when I open it up again the option still shows as checked. How do I save my choice for this option?

This is a bug in macOS Big Sur 11.3.1, verified on the MacBooks using the M1 processor (at least)


I have the same issue.


It basically freezes the option and whatever setting it you change it to will not be saved.


You don't state which MacBook you have...


If you have the M1 (Apple silicon), you cannot reset the NVRAM


If you have an Intel-based MacBook, instructions to reset the NVRAM are here:
