FaceTime on MacBook Air does not pick up with AirPods when connected

When I have my airpods connected to my MacBook and I am watching a video or doing something else, if I get a facetime call and pick up, the airpods will disconnect and when the person who called me begins to speak their voice emanates from my laptop speakers. It requires me to switch my audio output from my speakers to my airpods mid call to fix this issue, which is an inconvenience. I think the airpods default to my iPhone which also rings to the facetime call.

How can I make it so that when i pick up facetime calls on my MacBook my airpods, which are already connected, do not switch to my iPhone and stay on my laptop?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.3

Hi samhangster,

Thanks for posting your issue here! We'd be glad to help look into this with you. We understand that your AirPods are disconnecting after you answer a FaceTime call from your Mac. If you'd like your AirPods to automatically connect to your Mac during a call, we'd recommend checking out the information under "Switch automatically" in Connect and use your AirPods and AirPods Pro. You'll want to make sure that you meet the device requirements listed in the article to enable this feature.

We hope this helps! Cheers.
