Brand New Iphone 11 will not let me open apps or turn off my phone

I just got a brand new iphone 11 yesterday and everything was generally working fine until today when I tried to facetime it would not connect so instead I called my friend and after I hung up there has been just the faded call image on my screen and when I try to exit out of the phone app it won't let me swipe to close it or let me tap on any apps to open it but when I was changing my password it was letting me press the instructional buttons. It also will not turn off, I have tried to force shut it down but nothing appears and I am just annoyed because I have no idea why this is happening and I cannot call/text/ or practically do anything on my phone. I even tried using siri to open apps for me and it said that the action could not be done at that time. SOS

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help with your new iPhone 11. It sounds like it is frozen and wouldn't force restart.

Make sure you were following these steps: Force restart iPhone

"Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button."

If the issue continues, try using a computer and put it in recovery mode: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen.

Be sure you have updated to iOS 14.5.1: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
