Seems like a defective new apple watch

bought a new apple watch, got it today. But the band doesn’s easily go in the slot. What to do?

Is it possible to get a defective Apple Watch band replaced? Or do I have to purchase a new band? I received an Apple watch. When I opened the package and tried to put on the black band it became clear that the band was defective. It would not fit/click into place because the little metal piece had fallen out, literally.
