When deleting rendered files, what is "unused" files?

Is it files that appear in the timeline but are "muted"?

Missing files, but they are not missing! Opened up a project and it shows a number of missing files in the timeline, but they are right there in the browser, so why is Final Cut showing them as a missing file? I can manually fix by dropping the file onto the timeline and replacing it, but I have to do that a number of times as there are quite a few. Wondering why this would happen and how to fix it in one easy step.

deleting rendered files I know that deleting all the rendered files drastically reduces library size, but is there any downside? Can I still edit and play the project or does it become really slow? If there is no disadvantage to deleting them, why does FC store them in the first place? Bottom line, as part of my flow, is there any drawback to always keep deleting the rendered folder and then continue on with the project?

They’re render files that have been created but are not currently used by the project. The option has limited value.
