M1 Macbook Air increase text size in native res?

I just got a new MacBookAir, Big Sur, 13".

Using the native resolution ("Default" setting under Display...scaled) the text in finder windows is too small for comfortable viewing for these over-40 eyes.

Text size can be increased to 16, but that is still too small and that is the max setting.

The display resolution can be decreased and then the text font increases in size, but doing so degrades video output to something way less than 4k, maybe 1080?? and also screws with page loading in that they continue off to the right and no scroll bar to access.

The fix would be to allow the font size in finder...view options to go to greater than 16, thus keeping the 4k output. So I am using the hover zoom option.

Does anyone have another workaround for this? I suppose part of the "problem" is that being a 13" display, there is only so much real estate on the desktop, but hoping for better ideas while awaiting apple to allow larger font sizes in native res.

TIA

John
