Administrative password problem

How can I reset my Administrative password when I do not have the password because my login/icloud password does not work? The password does work when logging into the computer. I cannot update my MacBook because of this.

Changing the Password:

A. These Forums:

You are able to log in to these forums just fine, so the password would be no different, given it is the same Apple Account. So, ro fix this. So, perform the following, to get this to work.

B. Entering the Password:

Sometimes changes(i.e. formats) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for Keyboard) become manipulated, technically.  So, reset both on your Mac. Perhaps the keyboard's settings for it keys are mingled. It might take upto three tries to reset both. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

  • Use An External Keyboard:

If using the builtin keyboard does not work properly for entering the password, then use an external keyboard so do so. It doesn't have to be Apple brand. You might need this adapter: USB-C to USB A Adapter - Apple

C. Boot in to Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues. So, boot into it, seeing if you then log in.

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: the shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user

See if this now works
