External monitor

My macbook pro 2020 only supports 120 hz on full hd on my external monitor. Whenever i put the resolution of the screen on GHD (2560 x 1440) or on 1600 x 900 it is capped on 60 hz. Can anyone help me with this?

Macbook pro with external display maxing out to only 1080p at times. I have a Macbook pro 13 inch 2020 model. I will connect it to the the external display (QUAD HD - HP monitor) always. Many times, when I am connecting the mac to the display, the resolution in the monitor is maxed out to 1080p and its slightly dizzy too. I have to plug and unplug multiple times and change ports to make it work at 1440p. This is is annoying and horrible. The thing is that, I also use the same monitor with the same HDMI cable with my dell CPU. It never gives a problem and works at 1440p always. Model: Macbook pro 13 inch 2020 2TBT. Adapter: USB C to digital AV adapter. OS: Latest Catalina version.

Macbook Pro 2016 low resolution with External Monitor (Dell U4021QW) I just got a Dell U4021QW to use with my Macbook Pro 15 inch 2016 but the maximum 21:9 aspect ratio resolution I can get at 60Hz is 2560x1080. If I change it to 5120 x 2160 it only runs at 30Hz. I tried lower resolutions but all above 2560x1080 are at 30Hz. I read on https://support.apple.com/kb/SP749 that the laptop supports 5120x2880 at 60Hz so I don't see why it should not support 5120 x 2160 at 60Hz. The OS is updated to Big Sur. The monitor is connected via Thunderbolt 3. Am I missing something? Thanks

You don't say what specific model/year computer you have but here are the tech specs for the 2020 MacBook Pro. At each link scroll down to the Video Support section:
