Photo's has suddenly stopped recognising Videos.

I have a new trail camera and used Photo's to download the videos. All was well for a few weeks. Suddenly Photo's stopped recognising any videos and came up with the message - No photos.   I cannot use Photo's at all. As soon as I go onto the program it stops responding and the only way I can close it is to use Force Quit. Can anyone think of a reason that this has happened?

Are you still in the situation where you can't open photos at all?

If so, try booting into safe mode, and then trying. If it works in safe mode, try rebooting normally, and trying again.

If safe mode doesn't help, try creating a new empty library and trying with that.

Also you can try creating a new user account, and copying your library to the pictures folder of that account, and see if it will open from a new user account.

The dreadful so called upgrade to Photos in Big Sur does not recognise all the video formats it used to in Mojave and before. AVCHD and HDR are no longer supported or automatically converted when added to Photos. You may find, as I did on my Lumix camera, that under settings on your camera you can change the format to make them more compatible. Otherwise you need to convert them first to .mov files.
