How do I remove the fireseerch engine from my macbook machine?

Donload and run the free Malwarebytes for Mac. If you still have problems afterwards, check your browser and remove the extension

So, Ive run into this as well. Manually search through every possible preference. In the end uninstalling the app and downloading the later version worked.

I have the same issue.

Please note that the malware search engine issue has changed its name since widely reported on the net - issue reported here is not Fire Search, but now Fire Seerch (probably the same author though). From the date identified I believe this is fairly new surfacing in May 2021.

Resolution Attempts: (1) Downloaded Malwarebytes (free version) and ran it - it found no Malware!!

(2) Followed command steps below in Terminal that were marked as best/recommended solution in the removal of weknow.ac redirect but this didn't work either:

defaults write com.google.Chrome HomepageIsNewTabPage -bool false

defaults write com.google.Chrome NewTabPageLocation -string "https://www.google.com/"

defaults write com.google.Chrome HomepageLocation -string "https://www.google.com/"

defaults delete com.google.Chrome DefaultSearchProviderSearchURL

defaults delete com.google.Chrome DefaultSearchProviderNewTabURL

defaults delete com.google.Chrome DefaultSearchProviderName

Have no suspicious Extensions or Profiles.

Options ("three dots" , ellipsis) to change search/delete/remove Fire Seerch engine are disabled - see screen shot below. "puzzle piece" graphic is identified as "controlling this setting"

Am reluctant to purchase a Malware removal tool as searching for "fireseerch" almost yields no results when searched for- Malwarebytes did not detect this when run.

I doubt deleting Chrome and re-installing will resolve this issue.

Thoughts anyone?
