Apple TV 4K 2021 "setup failed (301003)" error

My Apple TV setup worked at the beginning. I had trouble starting prime video and tried uninstalling and restarting the app etc., Since all of them failed, I tried resetting Apple TV. That's it! I lost everything now.

Apple TV set up don't work and reports error 301003. The error appear after I enter codes for setting up with iPhone. Seems it has problems with internet connection and activation.

"Your Apple TV couldn't be set up. Check your network connection and try again".

I tried restarting, TV, Network, and resetting router. Tried connecting with ethernet cable etc., nothing worked.

If anyone else had this issue could you please help? Thanks.

Hi JJRASC, Thanks for the link.

Yes, I followed the instructions and it worked the first time flawlessly. when I reset the Apple TV due to some issue with the prime video app, I experienced this error. But now the issue has been solved.

Apparently, Apple TV WiFi installation seems to be more unreliable than using ethernet for installation. I just want to briefly write here a few steps that helped and not sure if all of this is necessary.

  1. power off Apple TV
  2. login into your user account of the router (for me it is Fritz box from Vodafone)
  3. delete the apple tv Wi-Fi connection from your router network profile. Also, ethernet connection if you already tried and failed.
  4. restart the router and Apple TV. Note: Skip the step 5-7 first and get back to it later if other steps fail.
  5. (optional) save router settings and reset the router to factory setting.
  6. (optional) get a new modem installation code from your internet provider. You can do this online, at least for Vodafone it is possible.
  7. (optional) configure your router box network with a new modem installation code following instructions for your router/internet provider.
  8. Disable or disconnect WiFi from your IOS device that you are about to use to set up the Apple TV installation. (note: this step seems to be important. Otherwise, the Apple TV automatically connects to the same WiFi network as your iOS device despite it is already connected ethernet cable. And this provides the same error again. You can check if Apple TV connected to Wi-Fi in your router profile. If so, delete WiFi connection in your router and start again.
  9. connect the ethernet cable to Apple TV
  10. follow the instructions on the Apple TV installation. Both "Continue setup with your iOS device or set up manually" options work.
  11. if it fails, after step 4, try steps 5-7 and continue.

I hope this is helpful to someone who may experience a similar issue and hopefully save a few hours of frustration.

Cheers
