How can I upgrade my iphoto on my apple mac. I have just installed High Sierra and iphotos no longer works

You need version 9.6.1 of iPhoto to work after macOS 10.10.3 and there is no update available from Apple at this point in time as the product has long since been retired. If you press the option key when launching Apple Photos, it will allow you to select your iPhoto library and migrate it into a Photos Library.
