If I have the disc set from Final Cut Pro 7, am I able to update it to FCPX for free? Or will I have to pay for a brand new software purchase?

There is no update price; it’sa new software purchase.
Don't forget that on your Mac you will have the free iMovie which is a simplified version of Final Cut Pro X and it may do all that you want.
Thank you. I've used the newer version before on someone else's laptop. This is the reason why I want to upgrade. My question was if I had to pay for the new version or if I could update my old one to the new one. Hopefully that makes sense
