Apple TV Remote
Just want to turn on and off the tv using the apple tv remote. I appears to put the tv in sleep mode, but will not control on and off.

All modern TVs switch to sleep mode/standby, and not really turn off. Unless you use a physical on|off switch on the TV, or disconnect the power cord. No remote can change that.
