Changing Apple ID region impact on photos library

Hi all,

Moved from the US to Norway and want to change regions on all my devices, but I am afraid to lose all our precious baby pictures. As of now, my temporary solution has been to create to ID's with separate payment options for each country, but that means that I can't get all the necessary apps for the country I am currently residing in. I have read multiple posts, including the official guide for how to change regions (end subscriptions, downgrade iCloud storage, etc.), but it really raises more questions than answer them.

My main question is: Will I lose the pictures in my photos library if i downgrade my iCloud storage to accomodate the region change? How to get around it?

It sounds like you want to make sure your photos are backed up to iCloud before you cancel your iCloud subscription and change regions. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities. Let's see if this helps.

First, you'll want to make sure that you follow the steps in "How to back up with iCloud" in How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This will make sure that you have all the most recent items in your iCloud backup. If you'd like you can also make a backup with a computer using the steps in "How to back up with your computer."

Once you've created a backup then you can continue the steps in the sections, "What to do before you change your country or region" and "Change your region online" in Change your Apple ID country or region. This link will guide you through exactly how to and what it means to change your region.
