AirPods Pro and lossless audio

Will the AirPods Pro Bluetooth connection to lossless give you audio above 256kb aac or will it be 256kb max?

No.

Apple’s official statement:

  • How can I listen to lossless audio?
  • You can listen to lossless audio using the latest Apple Music app on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV.7 Turn on lossless audio in Settings > Music > Audio Quality. You can choose between Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless for cellular or Wi-Fi connections. Note that Hi-Res Lossless requires external equipment such as a USB digital to analog converter.

I really don’t know about iPhone and AirPods, but I’ve connected AirPods Pro to MacBook Pro (early 2015), in MIDI settings you can set 24bit/48 kHz output settings. Listening to such music (I’ve got it downloaded in hi-res, played through vlc player, assuming similar process with Apple Music application for Mac and lossless release in June) actually sounded way better than listening to aac streamed from Apple Music. I hope this partly answers your question.
