DolbyVision Long HDMI cable Apple 4K 2021

I have the 2021 4K Apple TV. It has the same issue as the previous Apple TV 4K- should the HDMI cable be longer than say 2m (6 ft), the Apple TV will not output into Dolby Vision . I can connect the Apple TV directly to the TV with the Belkin UltraHD High Speed 4K HDMI Cable (2m) and it will get Dolby Vision. When I connect via my 4K Dolby Vision compliant receiver to the TV, the maximum quality I can get is 4K HDR (and that's a crapshoot).

My AV guy says he has never been able to get Dolby Vision working when the cable is longer than 6 ft and he installs about five Apple TVs a week.

Has anyone got a fix as I don't want to run another HDMI and power cable to the TV directly with the Apple TV connected. I just want one one HDMI in from the receiver?

I raised this issue with Apple Support and it has logged it.

Finally enabled DolbyVision. I worked out the culprit was the Sony TV that had a setting called “HDMI Signal Format” buried under Settings>Watching TV>External Inputs>HDMI signal format. It’s set to default to Standard format so I had to enable the Enhanced Format which allows 4K signals. I would love to know the logic of having standard format as the default given it’s a OLED 4K TV. Never mind, I’m not an engineer at Sony!

Thank you, BevMeister, I was pulling my hair out having just upgraded my entire system to 4K, including a new Sony XRF65X90J Bravia, a new Denon AVR-S960H AVR, the new Apple TV 4K 2, and the best HDMI cables Best Buy had. Absolutely no joy enabling Dolby Vision even though all the hardware and cables supported it.

After reading your last post I went snooping in the Sony’s settings and, just like you, deep down the menu tree I found it! Just like that, Dolby Vision enabled almost instantly.

Like you, I am incredulous that Sony didn’t make this option more visible and easy to change. Again, thank you for the detective work.
