So after putting up with this issue of the App Store using around 50% of my battery each day for nearly two weeks (and with activity levels at 100% every hour, with almost all of it in the background) I contacted apple support online chat. They suggested a few things that I had already tried and so we went to the full restore whilst the phone is plugged into a computer. So I reset my phone 11 via my Mac (following their instructions) and then I restored via iCloud backup .

I have now had ten hours of normal battery behaviour; usually by this point in the day my iPhone would be nearly dead. It is still on 56% 👍🏻👏🏻

So if anyone on here is struggling with battery life since iOS 14.6 was released and has tried a number of things but not yet tried the full restore plugged into a computer (which is better than an untethered restore according to the apple support chat representative) then I would urge you try it. Yes, it is a pain resetting the phone and waiting for it to restore from backup (and I now need to reconfigure my banking apps and wallet) - but I'm very happy that the problem seems to be resolved.

Cheers

Try this;

Settings -> Apple ID -> Find my -> Find my iPhone -> And turn off ‘find my network’

For AirTags to work Apple devices need to constantly ping Bluetooth and U1 signals from devices which will drain a lot of battery over a day regardless of them both being low powered

You will be loosing the ability to find your iPhone or iPad if the battery is completely dead but they only just added that anyway so life will be as it was before the iOS 14.6 update

If you open the Battery item in the Settings menu, scroll down, you will see charts of Battery Level and Activity. Select the "Last 24 Hours" option. Select the time bar on the activity chart; the corresponding section on the Battery Level chart will be highlighted. Below the charts, the Battery Usage will show the apps that were open, and their activity level during that time period.

A further note: before I offloaded old & unused apps and trimmed the automatic loading of podcasts, my battery level would plunge unexpectedly--like from 100% to 8% in 2 minutes. I often found that turning the iPhone off and on would correct this. So sometimes it looked as if the battery wasn't actually so discharged, but it thought it was.

Oh that’s frustrating Did you restore from your iCloud backup after the wipe?

If you did then I think the only other thing to try would be to do another wipe / reinstall of iOS via your mac and then just set the phone up as a new phone and run it like that for the day. If you still have a problem then it is either an iOS bug or a hardware issue.

If you don’t have an issue then you will know that there is either corruption in iOS (is this possible?) or an app of configuration issue that is part of your iCloud backup.

You could then try resetting all settings in the iPhone reset menu too.

Sorry if you have already tried the above. Hopefully the App Store appointment gets it sorted! 🤞🏻

Hi all.

I thought I would let you all know my problem and a fix. I use a iPhone X and use iOS 14.6 and never had any problems with battery until I started a sub to Apple Music. Before I sub to Apple Music I played my own music that I had stored on my iPhone and never had a problem so I subscribed to Apple Music and now my battery drain is so bad and the iPhone even gets hot. I just could not play any music as it was burning up my iPhone and the only way to stop it was to let the iPhone go into standby.

I tried resetting restarting closing the app and it did not help. Every time I loaded the music app and even close the app would still drain the battery fast. So I decided to turn off use mobile data in the music app and it stoped the battery drain and the iPhone from getting hot. I did another test by turning g use mobile data back on and turning off background app refresh for the music app and that also fixed the problem.

so I concluded that the apple music app has a background app refresh problem on the iPhone only. This looks like a bug in background app refresh software or the Apple Music app itself.

if you have battery drain try turning every single app refresh off in the refresh and then try it out and start adding one at a time testing in between each app enable and see what happens.

I reported this to apple and they logged. It.

so in my cause the Apple Music app refresh is broken.

hope this helps anyone.

For me, this issue was caused by both the Music app and Exposure Notifications. Disabling Exposure Notifications was simple enough, but for the Music app, it turned out to be caused by “Automatic Downloads,” which ran the Music app up to 59 minutes per hour in the background.

Recently however, even switching Automatic Downloads off doesn’t seem to complete eliminate the issue. Sometimes Music will behave for an entire day or even a week, then suddenly start running 50+ minutes per hour in the background, draining my battery very quickly throughout the day.

There appears to be a bug with the “Download in Dolby Atmos” toggle, which may screw up the Automatic Downloads toggle. If you mess around with “Download in Dolby Atmos,” you’ll occasionally notice that toggling that switch will occasionally change the state of the “Automatic Downloads.” There must be a link between the two that’s causing Automatic Downloads to be enabled even when the switch is disabled.

I have an iPhone SE and following installing the iOS 14.6 on Monday experienced dramatic battery loss. I have rebooted the device and this made no difference in improving the battery performance.

I tracked the issue down to the apple podcast app which is a major issue for m as listening to podcasts through the apple podcast app was the main reason for purchasing the phone to follow on from my previous iPods. I have Patreon subscriptions and hundreds of saved episodes on multiple shows stored in the app.

I have stopped using the app but have not deleted it and am currently using Pocketcasts and the battery performance is now fine and back to pre iOS 14.6 performance.

I hope apple get this issue sorted ASAP as if your own app cant work on your own device that a pretty poor show and a major issue I am sure for many users.

in my iphone 11 pro battery health reduced 3% now its 95% and my device is 9 months old. Its a software issue there are many apps that not work properly with this update the use lot off battery and device getting hot. Apple should have to fix issue in ios 14.6.1 before ios 14.7 release . Please apple fix that issue . Its almost end of ios 14 now . So please focus on stability , heating issue , and battery drain.

So I did a test last night. I had the Apple Podcasts App playing podcasts the entire night.

I had the phone charged to 100%.

I placed the phone on a charger and pressed play.

Woke up this morning and the battery was at 78%.

Again, phone was charged to 100% AND placed on a charger, AND STILL LOST 22% BATTERY!!!

Apple's podcast app is just broken. No issues with another podcast app (ie Overcast, Castro, Pocket Casts, etc).

I was seeing this issue. I think it is mostly fixed for me. The steps I took:

1) Removed older apps I was not currently using. Hotel, airline and rental car apps. If I need them again, I can download them. My theory is that some of them need to be updated.

2) Refined my choices in the Podcast app. If you are "following" a podcast, make sure you have some limits on the number of episodes you want it to download. I had already set the app to not work in the background. When I loaded the app, my battery would suddenly drain. My theory is that it was updating all the apps I had subscribed to at the same time.
