Can iCloud help me manage storage of my photos?

Can iCloud help me manage storage on my iPhone? I’m out of space on my iPhone.

iCloud is a synching service and not an archiving service. This means that the data on iCloud is synched across all your Apple devices. If you delete something on your iPhone then it gets deleted on iCloud as well. If you delete something on iCloud then it gets deleted on your iPhone. Note that iCloud is NOT a storage capacity extension of your iPhone.


There is one thing that you can do to increase space on your iPhone related to Photos and that is to set up your iPhone to Optimize Phone Storage. What this does is that your iPhone saves low resolution photos on your iPhone and saves original resolution photos on iCloud. This saves space on your iPhone. When you choose to view the photo on your iPhone then it quickly downloads the original resolution of your photo from iCloud and displays it on your screen. If you choose to set this up then open Settings Photos Optimize iPhone Storage : Check this and set it to ON.
