when disconnect from dock and reconnect does not see external monitor

I have two new MBP 2020 with Big Sur, they are both connected to Cal Digit Docks and two external monitors. It works fine with everything but when removing computer from dock to go to a meeting or take home, then come back and reconnect to dock, get error on the monitors that there is not signal. The only way to get to work again is to reboot the MBP. Is there a setting that can be updated or anything so we don't have to restart the computer every time it is unplugged from dock. I have several other set ups to this that run Catalina without this issue.

Hey there smalls05,

Thanks for touching base here in Apple Support Communities. We're happy to help provide some steps to help isolate your external display issue.

Are you running macOS 11.4? If not, can you update to test the issue? How to update the software on your Mac

Have you checked with the manufacturers to see if there are any software updates available for the docks?

Checking your hardware connections is also a good idea. If the issue continues you can also try resetting the NVRAM and SMC on the Macs.

Take a look at the resources below and keep us updated.
