how do I get my password for hotmail
I cannot send or receive any emails on my MAC - I just got a new iPad and I think that messed up my emails on the MAC as I can get and send emails on the iPad

You would need to use the password recovery option Microsoft offers for their services. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/help-with-the-microsoft-account-recovery-form-b19c02d1-a782-dee6-93c3-dc8113b20c42
Outside of that you can go to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Internet Accounts->Exchange (from the side panel)->Details and manage the settings for your Hotmail account there.
