Notes app not working - error message: The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSSQLiteErrorDomain error 11.

Yesterday I noticed a couple notes hadn't synced from my phone to my desktop.

Anytime I see a syncing issue, I get concerned, and look to resolve it right away.

I did all the normal trouble shooting I could think of which included:

closing and reopening the app.

confirmed the iCloud account is selected in the preferences and notes is turned on.

checked iCloud via browser to confirm notes were there.

restarted the computer.

unchecked and rechecked to sync the notes. When I did this yesterday, it removed all from the desktop then upon reselecting it, it looked like it was starting to repopulate all the notes, but as it went it stopped and it was not up to date. so this was concerning.

I googled the issue briefly and did not readily find a similar problem recently posted.

I checked for software update and initiated that. That in itself showed strange errors and issues and I persisted to the point where it is now updated. And now that it is updated. I get the error message and NO notes, where yesterday, before the update, I got no error message and out of date notes.

I use note app heavily across multiple devices so this is a significant issue for me.

Device the issue is on is iMac 2015, operating macOS Big Sur 11.4

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you .

Hi Kym54,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

We see that you are having an issue with Notes working on your Mac. We want to help. Does the issue happen in another user?

If so, test in safe mode.  Here’s how to How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Here are a few quick notes about safe mode:

- Safe mode often looks and responds a bit different than what you're used to.

- Safe mode does not load everything that normally loads during a regular startup.

- Safe mode is a bit slower while loading and during normal operation as well.

- These differences can be cleared-up by a normal restart.

Test to see the issue happens in safe mode. Restart and test again in typical mode. Just booting into safe mode in and of itself can resolve some issues.

Reach back out with any questions.

Best Regards!
