QuickTime Blocking External Camera - workaround?

I just updated to Big Sur on my desktop and now QuickTime is blocking my external webcam app EpocCam. Is there a way to override this? I used EpocCam extensively before the update and this is a HUGE loss for me.

(I'm a teacher on a budget and am pretty upset that this update ruined the way I record lessons and stream live with students.)

Hello there, Abby9876!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with QuickTime not allowing you to use your external camera on your Mac. Are you able to use the camera in other apps?

It might be helpful to test the behavior in a new user account, which will tell you more about possible causes for the issue, Check out this link to Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and create a test user to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.

Take care!

Yes, the external camera works in other apps. It is just QuickTime that is blocking it. In fact, QuickTime shows the same device's microphone in QuickTime, but not the camera. I read on another thread that QuickTime actively blocks external cameras and I am looking for a workaround because this is extremely debilitating to the functionality of this program. I use my external camera like a doc cam, so it is worthless to force the program to only use the internal mac FaceTime camera.

I only started experiencing this problem after updating to Big Sur.
