Apple TV HD

Hi Team

My Apple TV HD is stuck on the Airplay screen where it says "send what's on your IOS device or computer to this display using Airplay. To start, etc etc".

When I push the menu or apple tv button it requests a 4 digit password. I never set up a 4 digit password.

Effectively I'm locked out of my Apple TV HD unit. The unit is linked to my Apple ID so there is no issue around ownership.

Is anyone able to advise on options on how to do a factory reset, without being able to get into the settings of the unit itself?

Cheers

D

Conference Room Display (AirPlay message) can be locked. The PIN for that is the same as for Apple TV Restrictions.

If you forget the passcode, disconnect Apple TV from the power outlet, reconnect it, then press and hold the Back button (second-generation Siri Remote) or Menu button (first-generation Siri Remote) as it restarts. This temporarily unlocks Conference Room Display mode. For more information, see Manage AirPlay settings on your Apple TV.

If Restrictions are set and you don’t know the PIN, then you’ll have to reset the device (anything easier wouldn’t be much of a restriction). Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support

Conference Room Display could also be set and locked through a device profile. That may have happened if it was previously owned by a corporation or institution that wanted that configuration semi-permanently. I think a device reset may remove a device profile as well.
