Apple Watch in family mode, GPS tracking accuracy - horrible...

My son has a new Apple Watch SE GPS+Cellular that was setup using Family Mode. It is linked to my iPhone 11.

One of the primary reasons was to be able to track his location.

In every situation over the past month, the accuracy has been so bad it is unusable for tracking.

When I open the Find My app on my iPhone 11 it rarely shows him where he actually is. It is usually 200 feet to 2000 feet off.

To make matters worse, often it takes up to 15 minutes just to update his location, even if he is in an open field.

When tracking iPhones they are usually within 30 feet of your actual location and I have never had issues like this.

Is there any reason why the accuracy is this bad?

Is there a setting I need to make somewhere to improve it?

Is there a limitation that Family Mode is causing that I am not aware of?

You could first check if calibration would improve accuracy:
