iPad 5th Gen Update?

I have been using my iPad 5th Generation since 2017 with very few problems. I have 32GB capacity with 11.5GB available. I have used 2.2GB of 5GB storage, with half of the 2.2GB being photos which I could move or eliminate if necessary. I have not updated this iPad recently - currently operating with OS14.2.1

My question - should I attempt to update this iPad to iPadOS14 or would I be better off buying a new iPad? I primarily use it for email and web surfing, not gaming or anything. I am concerned about continuing to use it without the current security updates. Thanks!

Only you can make this decision.

I have seen lots of posts here of issue with both iPadOS 14.5 and 14.6 that I have decided NOT to update ANY of my and my family’s devices, because of fast draining battery issues and some other issues, I cannot recall at this very moment.

I am more about device software stability than security.

The decision is yours to make.

I finally took the leap of faith and authorized the update to iPadOS14.6 from my old iOS12.4.1 - it worked beautifully! Only took

about 15 minutes to install and my iPad is stable and working perfectly. Thanks so much for your advice, I was really concerned

that I had not installed the interim security updates, and I like the new options and format. Onward!

You should definitely update your iPad from iPadOS 14.4.2 to the current version - this being iPadOS 14.6. This version includes many critical security updates.

You’re very welcome. iPadOS14.x is streets ahead of iOS12.x.
