I got many Junk mails and they show up on the mailbox list counter in the macOS Mail app. I do not want any counter for Junk mail like I do not want to be notified by them at all. I added a picture for clarifying the problem. I do not want that 1 number near Junk Mail.
I used to use the Microsoft Outlook app and there was no such problem. Outlook app does not have any counter for Junk mail by default.

Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com. I am not good at complicated Mail Rules so maybe some one else can help there. But create a Rule for Junk and make it as Read even if not.
Rules, as P. Philips and Old Toad said, are the way to go.
If you don't want to take as drastic a measure as deleting right away, you can alternatively mark as read; this will leave the message in the junk box but since it is marked as read it won't show in the counter (since this only counts unread messages).
Easy - while in Apple Mail >> Mail in Top Menu >> Erase Junk Mail. The Count Number will immediately disappear as the Junk Mail will be deleted.

Then, perhaps better to log into Yahoo Mail via Browser and configure at the Source what and how to deal with Junk Mail. Thusly, eliminate the Junk from every arriving in Apple Mail Application.

I tried the one below but it does not work. I have still the same issue today. I do not select perform delete the message as you showed since sometimes it cannot decide properly and put necessary mail to the junk box and I do not want that mail to be deleted. Still, no way to hide disturbing the junk mail counter. Briefly, the problem persists.
I have entered Yahoo mail and eliminated some senders using blocking them directly, however, the issue persists for also my Hotmail account. Basically, the Apple mark the mail as read feature does not work.
Since it appears to work for Yahoo Mail via Browser method - might also consider doing the same process for Hotmail. That one, If memory is correct morphed to Outlook.com unless one chose Not to migrate to the new platform.
The junk folder is not already in my favorite section. I am adding one more picture to clarify the problem further
Right click, delete mailbox.
I mean remove the folder "junk" so it is hidden.
Tried that and weirdly it does not work as it should be. I do not know why maybe it cannot select Yahoo Junk mails as read. I added the pictures of my mail preferences for clarity.
