iMessage no longer updates in Catalina

Good morning,

While opening Messages recently I got the continuous spinning beachball, so I tried to fix the database by removing all in ~/Library/Messages folder. This has only partially solved the problem as I get a dialog that says messages is updating and then nothing happens.

When I tried signing in and out of iCloud, the password for my current device did not work to re-sign me in (possibly caused by two names for the same device?) so I had to use another approved device to get me back into iCloud. This caused messages to try to redownload everything from the cloud (roughly 12.9GB over the last seven years or so as I had settings to keep everything forever.)

See attachments for other iCloud / Apple ID oddities I was seeing as I was trying to troubleshoot.

What other options should I try before reinstalling the OS itself and/or turning off the iCloud sync to messages completely?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
