Strange message when I try to update my password

On my iPad Pro, I am trying to get a login issue with my mail resolved. I get the message "No password provided for [account]. Please go to account settings and enter a password."

The thing is, I am IN Account Settings when I get this message! Is this a glitch or is it a misunderstanding on my part?

That’s an interesting question.

You show one of two places where that mail account’s password is required. The other place to check would be to tap the “SMTP” row shown in your screenshot, then the “Primary server” shown there. That will address your outgoing email password. What you’ve shown addresses your incoming email.
