Apple Music not updating play count on Airplay?

I'm having the same issue. I have been attempting to listen to every song in my library in alphabetical order by song title. This non counting of plays just started last week (I thing coinciding with whatever the latest system update was). I do most of the listening of songs in Apple Music through Airplay, but it will only recognize that the song played in the count if I listen through the computer speakers. I've even tried listening on both the computer speakers and airplay simultaneously, but it doesn't register that way either. Why is this suddenly an issue? If this is not fixed, it might finally be the issue that makes me abandon Apple Music/Itunes for another platform.

I'm confused as to what the point of this support is. Are we all just piling on with our complaints, yet basically screaming into the void? Or is there actual tech support that might actually address the issue(s)? Obviously they have screwed something up that prior to the latest update worked just fine. So they just need to tell us that a patch for this issue will be included with a future update.

Well, the stock answers suggested at the top of this thread didn't work so... no. In my experience, if the quick fix doesn't work Apple sends info up to the engineers and we never hear from them again. Oh well, now we wait for the next OS update. Maybe that'll bring a change

Airfoil is great. There was a definite need for it before Airplay 2 was introduced. Less of a need for it now. However, the OS interface is a little better than Apple Music because you can airplay to zones (e.g. downstairs/upstairs) more easily.

From the phone the Airfoil app can manipulate speaker volumes. I believe it can select music but not as well as the Apple Remote app so I find myself using two apps.

Only now did I notice that a play count did not update and I'm using my AirPod Pros. Tried playing music through the computer speakers and it also did not work. My question is once this gets fixed, will play counts be updated? No wonder my Top of 2021 playlist that Apple Music makes has not changed in months. 🙄

Music app does not update playcounts when streaming via Airplay. Playcount is updated when Music app plays on the computer alone, but it won't as soon as we stream on Airplay,

I've tried this too - it's hit and miss. But at least it works...sometimes.

Same issue. Happens using Airplay to my HomePod and just playing music from my MacBook or iMac.

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue when playing through Airplay. In my case I have a pair of old Bose desktop speakers connected to an older Apple Airport Express.

I'm having the same issue - random play counts being captured and issues with playback. all whilst trying to play through Sonos. Do something Apple!

This WORKED. Personally I was totally OK with paying $29 to stop this madness.

It's weird because if you look in your history the played songs will all be there, so it's possible it might be able to reconcile everything once it's fixed but I wouldn't count on it...

Yeah, that worked. Unfortunately as we all know you can't select multiple speakers and pairs of speakers that way...

100% agree, everything was fine until 11.4, Apple better fix this or I'm done with them as well.
