macOS 11.4 breaks RDP (MS Remote Desktop) by causing constant reconnects

Hello,

After updating to macOS 11.4 on May 29th, connecting to Windows systems stopped working properly

Steps to recreate:

  1. Connect to Windows system using MS Remote Desktop ((RDP) from macOS 11.4
  2. Wait 5-20 seconds after connection completes, connection drops
  3. RDP reconnects, wait 5-20 seconds after connection completes, connection drops

Repeats continuously , so completely unusable

  • replaced macOS 11.4 system using same network connection with macOS 10.3, it works fine
  • macOS 11.4 screensharing to macOS 11.3 works
  • continuous ping between systems is 1-2.5 ms, no network drops

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.4

No, but Remote Desktop is very sensitive to firewall ports.

You may need to specify the port for Remote Desktop when connecting to Windows devices next to the domain or IP address.

If you are using a proxy server, see if it works better without one in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced.

If you are using VPN, make sure the VPN software is updated for Big Sur.
