Iphone 7 Microphone not working, iOS 14.6

Recently I just updated to iOS14.6 and my microphone has stopped working. I search around the community and realized it is a common issue.....

I tried many ways to test it, fix it and still not working.... Anyone is still facing the same issue after the updates?

Thank You

It isn't due to the update, the update just revealed the symptoms from the Audio IC chip having failing connections to the logic board. You can either pay to do an out-of-warranty replacement of your iPhone or you can locate a competent 3rd party repair site that can do board level soldering. They should re-ball 4 connections between the Audio IC and the logic board which will remedy the situation. If you go this route Apple may refuse future service on that phone but that really should not be an issue. Your other item is to buy a new iPhone at the Apple Store and trade it in.

It was not caused by the iOS update. The IC Audio chip failure for iPhone 7 has been around since mid iOS 12 and is from the chip being damaged/loosened over time from impacts, drops, etc. Because these are accidental damage Apple won’t make a repair program for it, sadly.

Other “fix” is to have someone solder it, but the issue will likely come back eventually and no guarantees this will work either.

If you try to use the speaker option while making a call but it doesn't work you have these options.

  1. Use Bluetooth headphones or speakers with it.
  2. Click on the Get Support link at the top right of this page to start the service process and do an out-of-warranty replacement of your iPhone for a fee.
  3. Trade it in on a new phone.
  4. Find a reputable 3rd party repair site that can do board level soldering and have them re-ball four connections on the Audio IC that are problematic. If you go this route Apple may refuse service on your iPhone in the future.

Yep, these level 10 people keep giving the correct information over and over. Isn't it irritating?

Any of the updates now does a diagnostic check before it is finished, if it detects a hardware issue then that issue will no longer work. It isn't a big coincidence and it is not hard at all using your favorite search issue to find people who have had the same issue but it did not occur during an update. Sometimes you can slap the phone in your hand at make it work for a short while.

I got my my iPhone 7 audio IC fixed here at a third party service provider in Bangalore, India. It costed me about $60 for IC replacement and service charge. Now my phone audio works and I can make/receive a call.

I still do not buy the argument about the audio stopping to work after an ios upgrade but it is what it is right now. I went with a third party service to fix my phone and its fine if Apple will refuse to service my iphone 7 in the future because for any service they probably will suggest me to replace my phone, and that is not what I call a service anyway.

You are correct in one thing, it is a coincidence. If you look for something specific your results will be the most recent and most related to what you asked. Just like you get a new car and suddenly you see the same model everywhere.

“these level 10 support people” are not support nor are they Apple employees, they are just customers like everyone else.

Also, if they keep saying “the same things over and over” maybe use common sense and realize there is a reason they keep repeating themselves… because it’s the facts.

Not a bad price, they really shouldn't have needed to replace the Audio IC, just re-ball it at four critical connection points which may have been what they did. I'm not sure what argument you are talking about but an upgrade will not cause a hardware failure or connections to come loose. I agree with your statement about not being concerned with future service.
